Roy Apologized to Laperriere

March 14, 2008 - Colorado Avalanche winger Ian Laperriere was upset with Mathieu Roy the last time they faced the Oilers prior to yesterday's contest.

Roy threw a couple of punches after Laperriere was already down in their fight at Rexall Place.

Roy had since apologized for doing so.

"I saw that he apologized," said Laperriere, one of the best personalities in the game. "I don't finish on top too often, maybe that's why I don't throw punches when a guy is down."

Heading into last night's contest, the 14-year NHL veteran had four goals and 14 assists for the Avalanche this season. Two of those goals have come against the Oilers.

However Laperriere is not valued for his scoring prowess. It's his grit that makes him so valuable to the Avalanche. He's had 15 fights this year and keeps track of his opponents on hockeyfights.com.

"We all do," he said. "Those guys that say they don't, that's b.s. It's a great study, there is no better tool than that."

However, Laperriere is not a big fan of the rating system on the website.

"Sometimes I see the fan voting and I'm like 'Come on', that fight was even and that say that the guy got his butt kicked," he said.

"It's funny what people write, too. Some guy who's never been in a fight in his life will write that he can't believe the two guys didn't stand in there and just keep throwing punches. Seriously, these guys have no idea what it feels to take a punch in the face. I think that's funny."
