It's All About Me

My name is Karen.  I live in Sherman Oaks, CA.

I'm a math instructor at Loyola Marymount University in

Los Angeles.  I've been teaching college math since 1998.

I also work for a learning center.

I started this website on April 22, 2004.  We moved to this domain in April 2006.

My husband Tim and I have been married for 6 years, but we started dating 15 years ago in high school.

It's Tim's fault that I'm a hockey fan.

He took me to my first Kings game at the Forum in 1994--someone gave him free seats in the first row behind the Blackhawks bench.  But I didn't really attend games with him regularly until the team moved to Staples Center.

2003-2004 was a rough time for my family, and hockey provided a much needed distraction.  For that I am very grateful.

(Three of us are wearing Laperriere jerseys...)

Ian Laperriere was the first hockey player that I ever met.

It's Ian's fault that I'm a Lappy fan.

(Who knows?  Maybe if I met Sean Avery first, you'd be looking at "It's All About Puppy"

right now instead...but I doubt it.)

(Leftover from my 2005 April Fool's Day Joke)

It's MY fault that my mom is a hockey fan.

We took her to her first game in March 2004.  We sat behind the Kings bench, and she was hooked.  Bad timing--the Kings lost that game and never won another game for the rest of the season.  Then she had to suffer through the lock-out with the rest of us.

She's trying to get my dad to be a hockey fan.  I don't know if it's working.

This was our 3rd year with Kings season tickets.

The first year was a lot of fun, but it wasn't the same without Lappy.

The last two years...umm...were definitely not as fun, but that's the Kings for you.

The 2005 "Frozen Fury" Avs vs. Kings pre-season game was the first time I saw Lappy as a member of the Avalanche, and it was much harder to watch than I expected.

But soon enough, I became a huge Avs fan, and we ended up at 11 Avs games in 2005-06 in LA, Anaheim, Vegas and Denver.  In 2006-07 we went to 11 Avs games in LA, Anaheim, Vegas, Phoenix, and Denver, and in 2007-08 we went to 14 Avs games in LA, Anaheim,

Vegas and Denver.

And that's my story...
