Father of the Year Awards 2008
Lappy One of Four Fathers Recognized by American Diabetes Association (From the Official Website of the Colorado Avalanche) The American Diabetes Association and the Denver Father’s Day Council hosted the 2008 Father of the Year Awards on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Denver. This year’s honorees included Ken Ellgen, XCel Energy, Executive Director (Retired), Mark Hellerstein, Chairman of the Board/Director, St. Mary Land & Exploration Company, Ian Laperriere, Alternate Captain, Colorado Avalanche, and Mike Shaw, Founder and Owner Mike Shaw Automotive, four outstanding fathers in the Colorado community.

Colorado Special Hockey Clinic From ColoradoAvalanche.com
On March 27, 2008, Ian Laperriere and John-Michael Liles hosted a Colorado Special Hockey practice as part of the Avalanche Player Clinic Program.
Colorado Special Hockey exists for the enrichment of developmentally disabled individuals. The game of hockey is used to develop within each player the characteristics that will help the player be more successful inside and outside a hockey environment.
Laperriere and Liles participated in instruction and coaching throughout the hour-long practice for 30 developmentally disabled hockey players.
Upon completion of the practice, Laperriere and Liles signed autographs and took pictures with the players. Visit the American Special Hockey Website
St. Baldrick's Day 2008
On March 14, 2008, Ian Laperriere participated in the St. Baldrick's Foundation Event at Fado Irish Pub in Denver. He and teammates Ben Guite and John-Michael Liles, along with Avalanche Assistant Coach Tony Granato, had their heads shaved to help raise awareness and funds for children's cancer.
