Avs 3 - Oilers 4
Avs 3 - Canucks 2 Ian Laperriere already was celebrating what appeared to be a milestone goal, but Avalanche coach Joel Quenneville, who heard the unexpected and premature whistle, knew the celebration Sunday would be short-lived. A delayed penalty in the waning seconds of the second period had been called against Vancouver center Jan Bulis as the Avalanche was on the attack, with Andrew Brunette feeding Laperriere. The puck appeared to touch a Vancouver defenseman but never was controlled before Laperriere slipped a shot past the Canucks' Roberto Luongo. Nevertheless, the penalty erased the goal, which would have been the 100th of Laperriere's career. "They said they thought (Vancouver) had control of the puck," Laperriere said. "It would have been an awful call if we lost the game, but we won the game. That's all that matters." --Rocky Mountain News, October 9, 2006

Rocky Mountain News - October 5, 2006 Asked to describe new teammate George Parros, Avalanche forward Ian Laperriere went conservative. "Small, 5-foot-2, 145 pounds," Laperriere deadpanned. "Afraid." While playing for the Los Angeles Kings, Laperriere made a point of befriending the 6-5, 232-pound Parros, who was claimed off waivers Tuesday from Los Angeles. "He's huge," Laperriere said. "A big boy. He's going to bring respect out there. "When guys want to start running around after our smaller players, they'll have to think twice."
