Laperriere has more goals (12) and points (26) against the Oilers than any other team in his career. His Gordie Howe hat trick was the first for an Avalanche player since Matthew Barnaby's on March 14, 2004, against Phoenix."

Ian Laperriere had 1 hit and 2 penalty minutes in Colorado's shoot-out victory over Buffalo on Saturday, October 25, 2008.
The Avalanche and the National Hockey League teamed up Saturday as Colorado hosted its Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night. Ian Laperriere, who lost his father to pancreatic cancer in 2003, also took part in the activities by spending some time with 3-year-old Ellie Rolfs during the morning skate. Ellie recently had a Stage IV Wilms tumor the size of two softballs removed from her 27-pound body.
From the Denver Post, 10/26/08:
October is Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness month, and the Avs on Saturday invited several people battling the disease, including Ellie, who took part in the morning skate sporting a pink Avs sweater. It didn't take her long to make new friends, including goalie Peter Budaj and Ian Laperriere. Budaj explained all the graphics on his helmet, including the Simpsons character on the back.
"My name is Ian," said Laperriere, "...but you can call me Lappy."
Laperriere showed her some of his scars but quickly conceded that the one she has that runs the width of her abdomen (a result of the removal of her tumor and the kidney it was attached to) made her tougher than him. Since the foundation by the NHL began in 1998, Hockey Fights Cancer has raised more than $10 million to fight the disease.

All About 'Lappy'

Avalanche forward Ian Laperriere won't rival cancer-surviving cyclist Lance Armstrong when it comes to fundraising, but a Web site dedicated to "Lappy" is doing its small part.
Since 2006, ItsAllAboutLappy.com has raised more than $10,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities through the sale of T-shirts and other "Lappy" apparel. Laperriere is not involved with the site but said he checks it periodically.
