Ian Laperriere News and Photos

November 2007

Laperriere Progressing

(from the Rocky Mountain News, 11/30/07)

For the second time in two weeks, Ian Laperriere bid adieu to his teammates as they left town without him.
Laperriere practiced with the Avalanche for the first time since injuring his right knee on Nov. 11 but did not make the two-game trip to San Jose and Los Angeles.
"Our dream's not to rehab and watch your team play. Our dream is to play hockey and help your team win," he said. "I couldn't do that the last road trip (Nov. 16-22), and it was painful."
When the Avalanche returns home, Laperriere hopes to take part in contact drills. Then he expects to have a better idea of when he will return for a game.

"Now that Marc Bergevin is no longer playing,

Lappy is the new king of comedy in the NHL."

Injury Update

(from the Denver Post, 11/27/07)

Avs veteran winger Ian Laperriere (sprained right knee) did some stretching exercises in the dressing room after practice, using a bungee-like device.

He won't play Wednesday, but hopes to return soon.

Forward Ian Laperriere, who is recovering from a sprained right knee, did some skating for the second day in a row.
He was injured Nov. 11 in a collision with Minnesota's James Sheppard.
Laperriere also worked out with a bungee cord in the locker room while listening to music.
He crisscrossed his legs while moving left to right and back with the cord stretched.
"Dancing with the Stars," he quipped.

Intangible 'Lappy'

(from the Rocky Mountain News, 11/22/07)
Ian Laperriere is hardly someone who can carry a team on his back, but his absence from the lineup certainly has been missed in the three games since he suffered a right knee injury on November 11.

Laperriere is a solid penalty killer who provides energy on the bench, on the ice and in the dressing room.

He did not travel with the team on its current four-game trip and is expected to be sidelined at least another 10 days.

The Avalanche is 0-3 without the likeable veteran forward.

"Lappy's a big role player," goalie Jose Theodore said. "He's a key player. We've got a lot of guys that could step in, but Lappy's a big part of this team. You don't have two Lappies."

Life Without 'Lappy'

(from the Rocky Mountain News, 11/13/07)

The Avalanche dressing room was noticeably quieter Tuesday. Missing was the jovial, French accent of forward Ian Laperriere, one of the team's most talkative and well-liked players.

Laperriere is expected to miss three to four weeks after spraining his right knee Sunday against the Minnesota Wild. The initial timeline for his return was two to four weeks.

"A guy like that is such a big part of your locker room," said defenseman John-Michael Liles, who exchanged text messages with Laperriere on Monday. "He loves coming to the rink every day and when you come in, he makes your day better."

Laperriere, a key member of the Avalanche's penalty-killing unit, has two goals and four assists in 17 games. He also brought an element of toughness with his willingness to drop the gloves at any time.

"It's a big loss for us," forward Milan Hejduk said. "We have to win without him. We have plenty of talent still in this locker room and enough leadership, too."

Laperriere Hurt, Out 2 to 4 Weeks

(from the Denver Post, 11/12/07)

Ian Laperriere, the popular veteran right wing with the Avalanche, will be out of the lineup for the next two to four weeks.

Laperriere suffered a sprained right knee in the first period of Sunday's game with the Minnesota Wild. Laperriere got tangled up in a scrum around the Avs' net after a faceoff and went down.

"Lappy's been playing extremely well, so it's a tough loss," Avs coach Joel Quenneville said.

His absence should create more playing time for Scott Parker, who was a healthy scratch against the Wild.

Laperriere Power

(from the Longmont Daily Times-Call)

"There are a lot of great scorers on the Colorado Avalanche roster, but Ian Laperriere wouldn’t be considered one of them.  On Wednesday night, however, the veteran winger looked like an offensive power threat. Laperriere scored two goals - his first two of the season - to help the Avalanche to a 4-3 shootout victory against the Edmonton Oilers at the Pepsi Center..."

Third Line's Play First-Rate

(from the Denver Post)

"The third line? On a night when the Joe Sakic- and Paul Stastny-centered lines were unproductive - as in, completely pointless - the Avalanche needed others to step up against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday at the Pepsi Center. And that turned out to be the members of what is considered the third line - Tyler Arnason centering Ian Laperriere and Andrew Brunette - in Colorado's 4-3 shootout victory..."
