"I was here for nine years. It's always fun to come back and see familiar faces in the stands. It was special for me and it always will be. It feels like home and people treat me well," Laperriere admitted.

"...when Ian Laperriere fought Sean Avery early in the game, most of the house cheered for the former King..."

"When Avery got run from the match for not tying his jersey down, the fans that remembered Laperriere's character during the time he toiled in Los Angeles (the polar opposite of Avery's behavior), showed their appreciation..."

Avalanche 7 - Oilers 6

Ian Laperriere - Fight vs. Brad Winchester

"Laperriere went again for the Avs. Lappy now leads the league with 10 fighting majors, and the Avalanche now have a total of 10 fighting majors. I'm sure the willing workhorse won't complain, but he probably wouldn't mind a little help."           --from hockeyfights.com

Fight Night Returns

(from the Edmonton Journal, 12/20/06)

Avalanche winger Ian Laperriere watched Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony get a 15-game suspension from the NBA for punching New York Knicks' Mardy Collins. He just whistled softly.

"If they suspended me 15 games for all the punches I've thrown, I'd be out of the league," said Laperriere, who had a spirited scrap with Oilers winger Brad Winchester in the second period.

Anthony ran to centre court after the punch last Saturday. Would that happen in the NHL?

"Not with anybody who's six-foot-seven. Maybe if a guy was five-foot-seven in hockey he might run away," said Laperriere.

Laperriere's Goal: To Score More Of Them

(from the Rocky Mountain News, 12/21/06)

Ian Laperriere wadded his practice jersey into a ball and eyed the target.

"Can I make that?" he asked no one in particular as he measured the distance to the laundry basket about 12 feet away. "I don't make much these days."

With a slight wink and a smile, the Avalanche forward then tossed the jersey into the basket without a problem.
