Avalanche Holiday Memories

ColoradoAvalanche.com recently caught up with a few members of the Avalanche to find out what the holidays mean to them. The athletes reminisced about their favorite childhood Christmas memories, the best present they’ve ever received and their holiday traditions.

Family Traditions
Ian Laperriere: My kids wake up early already. They’re up at 5:30, so I don’t think they can wake up earlier than that to open presents. But we have friends and family coming for Christmas. It’s going to be a packed house and the kids are going to be excited.

Good Eats
Laperriere: Lots of sweets. My wife bakes great desserts. A lot of eating, a little bit more than usual. Back home we have sugar pie, something you don’t have in the States. My wife makes a great sugar pie with brown sugar and syrup. It’s very sweet, but it’s only for Christmas time.

Favorite Christmas Movie
Laperriere: How the Grinch Stole Christmas, I guess. My kids are into it right now. I really didn’t have a favorite one, but now that my kids are watching that, I like to watch with them.

Injury Update

(from the Denver Post, 12/9/07)

Right wing Ian Laperriere (sore knee) will not play, but coach Joel Quenneville said he should return Wednesday at Columbus.

Avalanche Activates Laperriere from IR

(from the Official Site of the Colorado Avalanche, 12/5/07)

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that it has activated forward Ian Laperriere from the injured reserve list. He will be available to play in tonight’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.
Laperriere has missed the past nine games due to a knee injury he suffered on Nov. 11 vs. Minnesota. The 33-year-old forward has recorded six points (2g/4a) and 31 penalty minutes in 17 games for the Avalanche this season. In 874 career NHL games, Laperriere has registered 284 points (109g/175a) and 1,522 penalty minutes.

Injury Update

(from the Rocky Mountain News, 12/4/07)
Joe Sakic will miss his third consecutive game Wednesday because of a groin injury, but the Avalanche could receive good news on its lengthy injury report with the possible return of wing Ian Laperriere.
Laperriere practiced on Tuesday before the club flew to Columbus and reported no setbacks from the sprained right knee he suffered on Nov. 11.
“I’m close. I’m feeling better every day and that’s the goal,” Laperriere said. “We’ll see how I feel (Wednesday) and we’ll go from there. (Tuesday) was full-speed, but there is nothing like a game. My biggest test will be a game. If I feel 100 percent, I’ll be out there.”

Injury Update

(from the Denver Post, 12/4/07)

...There was good news elsewhere, though, because wingers Marek Svatos and Ian Laperriere, who have been out with a groin injury and a sprained knee, respectively, went to Columbus and probably will play.
"I feel better every day, push it a little harder," Laperriere, who suffered the knee injury Nov. 11, said after practice. "We'll see how it is when I wake up in the morning. That's my big test, how it is when I wake up. But it'll be sooner rather than later, that's for sure."

Injury Update

(from the Official Site of the Colorado Avalanche, 12/4/07)

In other news, both Marek Svatos (groin) and Ian Laperriere (knee) could possibly return to Colorado’s lineup on Wednesday. Quenneville also stated that defenseman Jordan Leopold has been progressing well and has been cleared for contact.
