Ian Laperriere - 1 Goal

Just 2:10 into play, Laperriere came gliding hard up the right side when he fired from above the circle wide on goalie Pascal Leclaire for a 1-0 lead.
Laperriere had gone 38 games without a goal, although he had a few sniffs, here and there. His last came October 3 at New Jersey in the Flyers' second game of the season.

Right winger Ian Laperriere had what is commonly called a Gordie Howe Hat Trick - a goal, an assist, and a fight - as the Flyers raised their record to 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. Lappy has recorded at least a point in four of his last five games - 5 points (2G, 3A).
This marked the fifth Gordie Howe Hat Trick of Laperriere's career and the first for the Flyers since March 28, 2008 at New Jersey (Randy Jones - 1G, 1A, 1 fighting major).

But the Flyers' journeyman utility player does have offensive skills, both with the disk and with his fists.

There are a number of index cards around the dressing room hanging in player stalls with a headline and quote from American war heroes to Presidents. Each card has a word and quote under it.
"Leadership" hangs under Mike Richards' stall. He's the team captain. "Discipline" hangs under Dan Carcillo, to remind him to keep his temper in check.
"Loyalty" hangs under Simon Gagne, who has been with the organization the longest. "Honor" hangs under Ian Laperriere's stall because he's always willing to defend the honor of his fellow teammates.

Anyway, he and Kimmo Timonen hosted a large group of youngsters Friday at the movies in Voorhees to see an advance screening of the movie, "Tooth Fairy," about a minor league hockey player who becomes an enforcer. Billy Crystal, Dwayne Johnson, Ashley Judd and Julie Andrews star in the film.

Ian Laperriere - 1 Assist and Fight vs. Mathieu Roy
Laperriere set up Carcillo for his fifth goal of the season at 9:12 of the third. Carcillo took a pass near the offensive blue line, turned and fired a 50-foot wrist shot.
"You have a two-goal lead like that and you let it slip, you want to bounce back as quickly as possible," Pronger said. "Lappy had the good fight there to put the momentum back on our side, kind of get things rolling."

Teeth Thief? Someone Swiped Lappy's Teeth

Energy man Ian Laperriere knew what to do next.
Not long after the timeout, Lappy dropped the gloves with Tom Kostopoulos and just wailed on him a few times. He showed little regard for his punching hand, hammering away on Kosto's helmeted head until he fell to the ground. Once on the ice, Kostopoulos winced away to shield himself, but Lappy had already pulled up from his defenseless foe, showing his open hands.
The cameras would later show, with Steve Coates narrating, Lappy yelling between penalty boxes to Kostopoulos that he didn't need to worry, he wouldn't hit him when he was already down. What a gentleman, that Lappy.
The fight, Laperriere's second of the game after chopping former Flyer Andrew Alberts down in the first period, was the perfect complement to Laviolette's timeout (stick taps to the great HockeyFights.com for always getting these posted so quickly). The Flyers were much more aggressive after that, and quickly netted a pair of goals to close out the period.

NHL reporter Adrian Dater ranks some of the league's top fighters:
Most willing: Ian Laperriere, Flyers. Is there anyone in the league the former Av hasn't fought?
"I don't know exactly why for the increase (in fights around the league)," said former Avs winger Ian Laperriere, now with the Flyers, "But I know I still find partners to dance with, even back East."
Laperriere is tied for third in fighting majors, with 16. Tampa Bay's Zenon Konopka is the leader at 20. And despite the loss of frequent fighter Laperriere over the summer, the Avs are sixth this season in number of fights, at 42. Calgary (54) and Philadelphia (50) lead.

Ian Laperriere was tired of waiting. After having seven teeth knocked out against Buffalo on Black Friday, Nov. 27, Laperriere has been eagerly awaiting the arrival of a shipment of specially molded teeth. Yesterday, Laperriere was excited to show off his new gibbers.
"They must have come in an armored car this time," Laperriere joked.
Last week, an empty box showed up at the Flyers' training facility. It was supposed to have Laperriere's new bridges inside. Instead, it turned out that his teeth were stolen during a shipping stopover in Louisiana.
Back in November, Laperriere lost seven teeth and required 75-to-100 stitches to repair his lip after he dived on the penalty-kill and got caught in the face with a slap shot. With the way he plays, it's a good thing this set is removable. Laperriere said he will look for a permanent solution once he retires.
