Flyers Deny Reports of Trouble in Locker Room
(from the Philadelphia Daily News - 4/6/10)
Ian Laperriere knows tension.
Being one of the most affable players on the Flyers' roster, Laperriere is pretty good at diffusing it.
Since he first broke into the league in 1994, Laperriere has been through 15 offseasons, 15 training camps and 15 trade deadlines. It's a safe bet to say he has seen his fair share of locker-room turnover, locker-room turmoil and locker-room tension...

(PhiladelphiaFlyers.com Official Insider Blog - 4/6/10)
It's been mentioned time and time again, but the contributions of players like Ian Laperriere and Blair Betts cannot be underestimated. The pair was at it again tonight, selflessly diving in front of shot after shot by some pretty talented Toronto blueliners.
"We just try to not let those 'D' put the puck on net," said Laperriere after the game. "They have pretty good "D' on their team like [Francois] Beauchemin, [Dion] Phaneuf and [Tomas] Kaberle. We just try to face the puck. Some nights you are a little bit off, but tonight we were right on, me and Bettsy."
Peter Laviolette had to pause for the correct words when asked about the penalty-killing unit, and specifically guys like Laperriere and Betts.
"Those guys sacrifice themselves to keep pucks from getting to the net. What they do is they give up their body in front of a 100-mile-an-hour slap shot knowing that they're going to take it somewhere, but not knowing where," said the coach. "And they do it consistently.
"The execution has been excellent: the routes that they run in trying to eliminate the passing opportunities and shot lanes...they've done a tremendous job."

Congratulations, Lappy!!
In a ceremony prior to the start of the Flyers-Rangers game on April 11 at the Wachovia Center, the Philadelphia Flyers announced the recipients of the 2009-10 Flyers team awards.
Yanick Dupre Class Guy Memorial Award
The Philadelphia chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association (PHWA) announced that it has selected Ian Laperriere as this season's Yanick Dupre Class Guy Memorial Award winner. This award is presented annually to the Flyer who best illustrates character, dignity and respect for the sport both on and off the ice.
The award honors the memory of Yanick Dupre, who died on August 16, 1997 at the age of 24 after a 16-month battle with leukemia. Dupre played parts of three seasons with the Flyers (1991-92, 1994-95 and 1995-96), recording two goals and 16 penalty minutes in 35 games. He was originally drafted by the Flyers in the third round (50th overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.
Coincidentally, Laperriere played with the late Dupre on the same junior team (Drummondville) in the early '90s.
"I got goosebumps (getting the award) because Yanick was a friend of mine," Laperriere said. "It's an honor to have my name and his name together. He's a guy I looked up to big time. He had a great work ethic."

Gene Hart Memorial Award
In addition to the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, the Philadelphia Flyers Fan Club also selected Laperriere as the winner of the Gene Hart Memorial Award. This award is given to the player who demonstrated the most "Heart" during the season as voted on by members of the Fan Club at their monthly meetings. Presenting the award to Laperriere were Flyers Fan Club members Joe Fisher and lifetime club member Evelyn Gross, along with a check for $1,500 to the charity of Laperriere's choice.
The award honors the memory of longtime Flyers broadcaster Gene Hart. For 28 years, Flyers broadcaster Gene Hart called the organization's most thrilling moments, and in the process, helped spawn generations of devoted fans. Hart's contributions to the sport were recognized with his induction into the Flyers Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997.
