Lappy One of Four Fathers Recognized by American Diabetes Association

The American Diabetes Association and the Denver Father's Day Council hosted the 2008 Father of the Year Awards on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Denver. This year's honorees included Ken Ellgen, XCel Energy, Executive Director (Retired), Mark Hellerstein, Chairman of the Board/Director, St. Mary Land & Exploration Company, Ian Laperriere, Alternate Captain, Colorado Avalanche, and Mike Shaw, Founder and Owner Mike Shaw Automotive, four outstanding fathers in the Colorado community.
A Bout To Be Father Of The Year

Fighters are always the nicest guys. It is a common saying in hockey, and Ian Laperriere has done nothing but keep it true in his NHL career.
Need a player to give some time for a good cause? Call Lappy. Need a player to say a few words to a group of kids at a school? Call Lappy.
And when the American Diabetes Association and the Denver Father's Day Council went looking for father of the year candidates, they called Lappy. This month, Laperriere was named one of the city's four fathers of the year by the ADA...

Avs' Mixed Martial Arts Training

A handful of Avalanche players recently met up with the University of Denver's Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, Mike Sanders, to undergo some mixed martial arts training in preparation for the upcoming season.

In a week that included mixed martial arts training and a running session at Red Rocks, several Avs players trained with the Colorado Springs S.W.A.T. team at the National Strength & Conditioning Association's Human Performance Center.
