Pre-Season 2009

Life of the Party

Flyers Training Camp Opens to Record Attendance

(Excerpts from CSNPhilly.com, 9/13/09)

Sunday morning at Skate Zone, Flyers fans said it by their mere presence: an estimated crowd of 1,700 – the largest ever to see the Flyers open training camp since the facility opened in 2000.

Newcomers Ian Laperriere and Chris Pronger were impressed with the fan turnout.

"I've never seen that," said Laperriere, who played in Colorado. "That's pretty impressive for everybody. If you are young or older, you go out there and see all those people and it's extra adrenalin. It's pretty cool."

Most players prefer playing exhibition games to intra-squad scrimmages.

"I love it," Laperriere said. "I love it. It's not like when I first broke into the league when guys came into camp to be in shape. If you are not in shape, it shows. It shows in the testing.

"They test pretty hard here. If you didn't do anything during the summer, you won't be here long."
